Two problems with mixing in a metal bowl: flour goes everywhere on the first turn, and sticky dough clings to the sides afterwards. This silicone insert drops inside the bowl and addresses both - the lid contains the splatter, and the non-stick surface lets dough release without scraping.
The silicone is food-grade and BPA-free, and it handles a wide temperature range from -40 C to 240 C, so it works for chilled preparations as well as hot ones. It is shaped to sit securely in 4.5 to 5 quart mixing bowls without slipping while the mixer runs. When you are done it goes in the dishwasher. Available in red, black and white.
